When selecting a linear luminaire, many people focus mainly on the design, dimensions or lumen output. However, one of the most important decisions is often hidden inside the luminaire itself: the optical system. The optic defines how the light behaves in the space. It influences glare, visual comfort, beam control, efficiency and even the atmosphere of the project.
Within the Irmin family by Light4U, we offer three different optical systems: lens optics, opal diffuser and louvre optics. Each version is developed for a different type of application.
Irmin with Lens Optics
Precise light control for retail and commercial projects
Lens optics are developed for projects where precise light distribution matters. Instead of spreading light in all directions, the optic controls the beam exactly where it is needed.
This is especially important in retail environments. Shelves, products, walls or corridors often require different distributions to achieve the right visual effect and sufficient vertical illumination.
Irmin Lens is available with multiple optical distributions:
- Double asymmetric for shelf illumination
- Single asymmetric for walls, shelves and wallwashing
- 105° for general illumination
- 90° for corridors between shelving
- 30° for more concentrated illumination with reduced glare
Because the light is directed more efficiently, lens optics can improve contrast, reduce unnecessary spill light and create stronger visual focus.
This makes Irmin Lens highly suitable for retail projects, supermarkets, showrooms, commercial spaces and display areas.
Irmin with Opal Diffuser
Soft and homogeneous general illumination
An opal diffuser works differently from lens optics. Instead of directing the light into a controlled beam, the diffuser softens and scatters the light.
The result is a wider and more homogeneous luminous surface with softer shadows and smoother transitions.
Opal systems are often selected when the goal is comfortable general illumination and a clean architectural appearance.
Compared to lens optics, opal diffusers create less contrast and less directional light. This can make spaces feel softer and visually calmer.
Irmin Opal is suitable for utility spaces, corridors, hospitality applications, general commercial projects and areas where diffuse illumination is preferred.
Irmin with Louvre Optics
Advanced low-glare illumination
For projects where visual comfort is critical, Irmin Louvre offers the most advanced solution.
The louvre controls the viewing angles of the light source and significantly reduces direct glare. This is especially important in environments where people work, study or spend long periods under artificial lighting.
Irmin Louvre is available in two versions: 55° and 80°.
The 55° version is developed for very low-glare applications and can achieve UGR<19, and even UGR<16, in selected configurations.
This makes it suitable for offices, schools, universities, laboratories, libraries and reception areas.
The 80° version creates a wider light distribution while maintaining the characteristic louvre appearance. Because the beam angle is wider, glare values naturally increase slightly.
This version is often used in restaurants, boutiques, shops and general architectural applications.
At Light4U, we generally recommend black louvres because black surfaces reduce reflections and help minimise perceived glare. White louvres are also available on request.
One family. Multiple possibilities.
One advantage of the Irmin family is its flexibility.
Irmin can be recessed, track-mounted, rotatable and controlled via DALI, Casambi or phase-cut dimming. Irmin can be tunable-white or single CCT. The same luminaire family can therefore behave completely differently depending on the selected optical system.
That is why choosing the correct optic is just as important as choosing the luminaire itself.
