Understanding the link between luminous flux and beam angle.
In architectural lighting, luminous flux (lumens) and beam angle are tightly connected. Luminous flux defines the total light emitted by a luminaire. Beam angle determines how that light is distributed in space — and ultimately, how bright the illuminated surface appears.
A narrow beam angle, such as 15°, concentrates light into a smaller area, resulting in high intensity (candela). A wide beam angle, such as 60°, spreads the same amount of light over a much larger area, significantly reducing intensity. To maintain consistent brightness on the target surface when changing the beam angle, it’s essential to adjust the luminous flux accordingly.
Surt: A flexible lighting solution built for precision.
That’s where Surt by Light4U comes in. This professional track spotlight features a manually adjustable beam angle from 15° to 60°, allowing it to shift from focused accent to soft ambient lighting. And with the integrated potentiometer, you can fine-tune the light output manually, directly on site — making it easy to match the beam angle with the desired intensity.
Advanced control options with DALI or Casambi.
