Lighting inside museums, galleries, retail environments and hospitality spaces is rarely static. Displays evolve, collections rotate, layouts change, and the visual focus constantly shifts from one detail to another. In these environments, flexibility inside the luminaire itself becomes essential.
Surt S was developed exactly for this purpose.
As the successor and smaller evolution of the original Surt family, Surt S continues the concept of flexible professional accent lighting in a more compact and refined form. While the previous Surt generation is gradually moving towards outlet status, Surt S introduces a new optical and mechanical platform focused on smaller dimensions, cleaner integration, higher efficiency and improved colour rendering performance.
The luminaire combines compact architecture with a fully integrated zoom optic from 15° to 60°. This allows lighting designers to adapt the beam directly on site without replacing lenses or changing optical components. A narrow beam can precisely highlight small objects or textures, while a wider beam creates softer illumination for shelves, displays or architectural surfaces.
Unlike many zoom spotlights on the market, the outer dimensions of Surt S never change during zooming. The entire zoom movement is integrated internally within the optical mechanism. This means all luminaires remain visually aligned regardless of the selected beam angle. The clean cylindrical design stays consistent throughout the installation.
Smaller dimensions through a new driver concept
One of the key developments of Surt S is the redesigned track driver adapter concept.
Instead of using a large integrated driver body inside the luminaire housing, Surt S uses a compact track driver adapter system. This allows the spotlight itself to remain significantly smaller and more elegant compared to traditional zoom luminaires.
The potentiometer for Dim on Board control is integrated directly into the track driver adapter. Depending on the project requirements, the luminaire can additionally be equipped with phase-cut dimming, DALI control or Casambi control.
For Tunable White versions, DALI and Casambi configurations are available. This approach creates a more compact luminaire body while still maintaining professional control flexibility for architectural projects.
High colour rendering with efficient COB technology
Surt S combines high-efficiency COB technology with strong colour rendering performance suitable for demanding professional applications.
The luminaire delivers up to 2300Lm from only 20W with system efficacies reaching up to 115Lm/W. At the same time, high CRI values ensure accurate material and colour reproduction within the illuminated environment.
Available versions include CRI >90 and CRI >98. Compared to the previous Surt generation, Surt S also achieves improved R-values and better overall colour fidelity. The newer COB platform provides higher CRI performance together with improved efficiency and smaller dimensions.
The updated optical system improves particularly important rendering values such as overall Ra, R8 performance, R9 red rendering, R15 skin tone rendering and TM30 fidelity.
This becomes especially important in museums, galleries, hospitality and premium retail applications where materials, artwork, fabrics, skin tones and textures must appear natural and visually accurate.
High colour rendering is not only about numerical CRI values. It directly affects how objects feel inside the space. Poor colour rendering can flatten textures and distort perception, while high-quality light preserves depth, saturation and authenticity.
Flexible optics beyond beam adjustment
Surt S can additionally be equipped with optional optical accessories that further expand its application possibilities.
Available accessories include a honeycomb louvre for glare reduction, colour filters and a barndoor accessory for additional beam shaping.
These accessories are designed to remain almost invisible inside the luminaire. They can also be installed afterwards by simply removing the inner optical ring and inserting the accessory.
This allows lighting professionals to adapt the visual effect even after installation without changing the luminaire design itself.
The honeycomb improves visual comfort and reduces glare in applications where visitors remain longer inside the space. Colour filters and the optional barndoor accessory allow additional shaping and control of the light distribution for more precise accent lighting.
One luminaire. Multiple lighting scenarios.
Traditional spotlight systems often require different optics for different applications. This increases complexity during planning, storage and maintenance. Surt S simplifies this process by combining multiple beam distributions into a single luminaire platform.
This becomes particularly valuable in museums with rotating exhibitions, retail stores with seasonal collections, hospitality spaces with adjustable atmosphere, showrooms with evolving product presentations and galleries requiring different focal points.
The zoom adjustment is directly integrated into the luminaire body and allows intuitive beam adaptation without compromising the architectural appearance.
Compact dimensions with professional performance
Despite its smaller form factor, Surt S delivers professional photometric performance suitable for demanding applications.
- Track mounting: 3-phase / 1-phase
- Dimensions: ø71mm x 156mm
- Zoom optic: 15°–60°
- Luminous flux: 2000Lm – 2300Lm
- System power: 20W
- Efficiency: up to 115Lm/W
- CRI: >90 / >98
- Protection: IP20
- Finishes: white, black or grey
The deep-set optical system improves visual comfort while reducing direct glare. This is especially important in museums, hospitality and premium retail applications where visitors remain inside the space for longer periods.
Why beam flexibility matters
Beam angle has a direct impact on illuminance, contrast, atmosphere and visual comfort. Even with identical lumen output, a narrow beam creates significantly higher lux levels on the target surface compared to a wide beam.
A 15° beam concentrates light precisely onto small objects and creates strong contrast. Wider beams such as 60° create softer transitions and more homogeneous illumination across larger surfaces.
By integrating this flexibility into one compact luminaire, Surt S allows lighting designers to react to the actual space instead of being restricted by earlier assumptions during specification.
The possibility to adapt the beam afterwards also increases long-term flexibility of the installation itself. Displays can change, interiors can evolve, and objects can move without replacing luminaires or optical systems.
Designed around adaptation
Surt S is not designed around one fixed beam angle or one static application.
It is designed around adaptation, flexibility and precise control of light inside evolving architectural spaces.
